Abstract

In every community pregnancy has been regarded as the most welcome event of successful womanhood, however to remain barren is considered a 'curse'. The nutritive value of diet of pregnant women is probably one single factor which would directly affect the out-come of pregnancy. Many social taboos prevalent in the society prohibit or allow the expectant mothers to consume some foods. The present study is an attempt to explore the traditional beliefs regarding dietary habits and ultimately to account their adverse effects on the health of mother and child.
