Abstract

Causes of poor pregnancy outcome are complex and deep rooted in India. When pregnant women at risk do not have adequate access to proper diet and care during the antenatal period, at delivery or post partum, high maternal mortality is inevitable. Nearly 70 per cent of the Indian women of child bearing age reside in rural areas, where facilities for special care is limited. Risk scoring systems play a vital role in the identification of high risk pregnant women in such areas.
