Abstract

Anaemia is a major public health problem of the world today. Recent research studies have revealed that 65 to 75 per cent of the under priviledged adolescent girls (10 to 18 years) in India are anaemic. Iron status during adolescence may be complicated further by low dietary intake. The overall proportion of anaemia in India is estimated to be as high as 80 to 90 per cent among expectant women and 29 per cent among school age children.
