Abstract

The epidemic of cardiovascular diseases, especially Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is emerging in rural India and accelerating in urban India. Hypercholesterolaemia refers to an elevation of serum cholesterol. It has recently emerged as one of the most important preventable and modifiable risk factors for CHD. Reducing cholesterol level by one per cent is expected to reduce the incidence of CHD by two per cent.
