Abstract

The Millennium Summit held in New York in 2000 at the United Nations was attended by 147 heads of state or government. The Assembly called for the alleviation of extreme poverty, disease and environmental degradation using the existing wealth, the modern technology and the global awareness that we have, as we enter the twenty-first century. United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan expressed o strong conviction that the UN represents not only the governments of 191 member states, but more importantly the world's people who have rights and responsibilities that have a global reach.
