Piaget’s View on the Development of Causality in the Sensori-Motor Stage

Causality or causal knowledge plays a very important role in our lives. In this paper we will discuss the development of the notion of causality in an infant of sensori-motor stage focusing mainly on Piaget’s cognitive developmental theory. Piaget in his cognitive development theory mentions about four stages of development of which the first one is sensori-motor stage. He further divides this stage into six periods. In this paper we will discuss the development of causality in an infant through these six periods. The development of the notion of causality in an infant is closely intertwined with the development of object concept and the concept of space. So, in this paper, along with the development of the notion of causality we will focus on these two developments as well.Downloads
