Abstract

Scattered reports have demonstrated that carbohydrate digestibility has an effect on protein digestibility. In vivo carbohydrate digestibility studies showed that the faecal bulk is an indication of low digestibility of carbohydrate, Harper et al and Change observed that the faecal nitrogen excretions were influenced by the type of carbohydrate in the rat. In the present study, by considering faecal weight as an indicator of starch digestibility and faecal food nitrogen as an indicator of protein digestibility an attempt is made to interpret the relationship of starch digestibility to protein digestibility.
