Abstract

In Malawi, the annual per capita protein supply from meat from livestock is in the range of 5.4-6.6 kg and that from fish in the range of 7-10 kg. This supply is much lower than in the surrounding countries (13 kg) in the Southern Africa Development Community. The result is prevalence of malnutrition throughout the country. Reports have shown that 48 per cent of children under-five years of age are stunted and 22 per cent are severely stunted.
