'Junk' Food - are we Miscommunicating?
Overweight and obesity are on the rise in India and assuming epidemic proportions' and It is indeed a growing problem among adolescents. A recent study by NIN concluded that the prevalence of overweight and obesity among adolescents in a South Indian city was around 11 per cent of which nearly three per cent were frankly obese. Though the percentage prevalence may appear small, it is huge going by the size of the population, While negative lifestyle factors and lack of physical activity are among the important causes for obesity, consumption of unhealthy foods is also an important contributing factor. Around the world, more and more people are gorging on calorie-rich, nutrient-poor snacks, sodas and sweets. Energy intake of people have gone up with shifts away from meals to snacks and from at-home to away-from-home meals.
