Abstract

Anaemia exists in many human beings throughout the world, particularly in poorer countries. The World Health Organization has pointed out that "a great deal of ill-health sapping energy and productiveness in many countries and causing tragedies in child-birth is due to anaemia." Nutritional anaemias are known to be widely prevalent in the Indian sub-continent, and of these, iron deficiency anaemia appears to be the most common.
