Abstract

Foraminifera are important marine organisnas and act as reliable indicators to a variety of climatic, ecological and bathymetric aspects. They are extremely sensitive to changing environmental conditions and can be used as best proxies for understanding various oceanographic set up. Their study indicated that occurrence of foraminifera is related to different oceanographic parameters such as depth, temperature, salinity, sediment distribution and water mass. Ecological and environmental studies of Quaternary foraminiferal are gaining its importance throughout the world and its relevance in the Indian subcontinent is very significant. In this paper an attempt has been made to focus some important aspects in bathymetric and environmental set up of Quaternary foraminifera from the Territorial waters (TW), Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of India and other parts of ocean in the world.
