Abstract

Feynman's dream of miniaturizing the computers mimicking the information storage and retrieval system of the living cells has been realized very recently. The pioneering work of Adleman and its subsequent follow-ups are discussed in this article. Though the initial enthusiasm has faded with time, research in this field still holds the promise of unveiling the natiu-e of the process of computation per se.

Journals

Three article in the magazine Science are the key papers. These are Adleman (Nov 11, 1994), Lipton (April 28, 1995) and Guarnieri et al (July 12, 1996). some comments on those papers published in the same issues of the journal are also worth reading.

Proceedings

The American Methematical Society publishes the proceddings of the International conferences and workshops on DNA-based-computation under DIMACS (Series in Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Sciences) series. The proceedings of the 1995 meeting is available in volume' 27 edited by R J Lipton and EB Baum.
