Abstract

A landfill linear is an impermeable membrance which is laid down under engineered landfill sites. The membrane prevents toxic leachate permeating down into the underlying aquifers or nearly rivers causing spoling of the local water. The primary purpose of the linear system is to isolate the landfill contents from the environment and, therefore, to protect the soil and ground water from pollution originating in the landfill.lt is observed from the experimental results that the effect of metal can be reduced to 80-90% using compact linear made of soil, soil with 10% cement, soil with 10% bentonite. A mathematical treatment using material balance is devel oped for the transportation of different metals through the compact liner. The experimental results show satisfactory agreement with the derived mathematical equation.
