Abstract

Technical education system in India in recent past has undergone changes keeping in view the changing demand at national and international level. One of the changes among others is very significant to mention is Teaching Learning system. Competitiveness has also come into educational field in general and technical education system in particular. The characteristics of demand and supply have undergone a tremendous change. Advent of new technologies outdating the old ones at progressively shorter span of time, as a result the workforce required to update with new knowledge in several times in the span of their career. Advancement in communication technology has opened up the access rapidly, breaking down the physical boundaries. The increased opportunities as a result of such changes allow the technical institutions and their administrators to diversify their activities in many ways than ever before, but major challenge for the institutions to be effective and continue to be effective under the prevailing changing conditions. Wider ranges of activities undertaken by the institutions, makes measuring the effectiveness a challenging task. The outside stake-holders often find it difficult to comprehend the overall effectiveness from a range of output measures. It is thus, necessary to develop a set of consistent, relevant and simple to understand factors that will collectively address and communicate the effectiveness of technical institutions to all concerns.

The present paper highlights some of the important factors that affect the effectiveness of technical institutions along with some quality issues.
