Abstract

Asutosh had an uncanny genius in the field of mathematics from his boyhood days. Before he left school, he had already mastered unleaded principal of geometry and saved all his problems in his own indigenous way. From Atul Ghatak boyhood days of Asutosh, we gathered that his uncle Durga Prasad was an expert in mathematics and his source of inspiration. While a student of Presidency College, Asutosh picked up Latin and French to study La Place in original. But his progress was not satisfactory. I fence he devoured the 12 volume translation of La-place done by Bowditch.
