Abstract

Raja Rammohan Roy is one of the greatest Indians of all times. He was a constructive thinker, a great intellectual, a polyglot, an educationist and a dynamic social reformer. He was an extremely courageous man and fought fearlessly against the social evils such as child marriage, dowry system, polygamy, widow burning (‘Sati Daho’) and ‘Koulinya Pratha’. His greatest contribution was successfully abolishing the ‘Sati Daho’ with the help of the British Government, the Brahmo Samaj and his broadminded liberal friends – Indians as well as Europeans.
